Mac OSX 10.4.11
2x2.66 Dual-Core
Final Cut Studio 2

Do you have a preferred method using MEPEGStreamclip in taking the VOB files from a dvd and turning them into a high quality format to edit in FCS2 and finally create a new dvd?
The export options are quite extensive. Quicktime? DV? etc? and within those are numerous options as well as a quality slider.
or-
should I just import the vob's into FCS2 directly? (seems like a "duh" to me)
My past experience has been using DV import. But in action sequences the video tends to suffer.

If I want to edit DVD content with FCP6, then I would simply demux VOB files into video and audio files, using Squared 5's MPEG Streamclip.

FCP6 might let you import VOB files.  But if audio is compressed with AC3, then you will get no audio.  That's why you want demux MPEG-2/VOB files at first.

Thank you for that info. I have just learned that demuxing does not degrade the video or audio, but just separates it. But that brings me to whether to use "Headed" "Unscaled" or just demux into the M2V and desired audio format that the Demuxing menu gives me.

You are welcome.

You should choose Demux into M2V.

If you are Mac user, here I have some suggestions:

1. Handbrake. This is a free tool for ripping dvd and convert it to other formats includes iPod MP4 format.

2. MacTheRipper. This one is also a free and professional software to rip DVD for Mac.

3. This DVD Ripper for Mac is easier to use, and not expensive.
